Module 5 of 7 · about 5 minutes
What to do on the day a resident or guest reports bed bugs, and the advice that stops them spreading.
Reviewed by the ThermoPest technical team · Last reviewed October 2026
When a resident or guest reports bed bugs, record what they tell you, report it to the right team the same day, and make sure the homes or rooms beside, above and below are flagged for checking. Advise them not to move furniture between rooms, not to throw items out unwrapped, and not to use foggers or shop-bought sprays, which can scatter bed bugs and make treatment harder.

Look for signs if you can and take photos.
To your pest or repairs team, using your process.
Rooms or homes beside, above and below.
Give simple advice and say what happens next. In a hotel, take the room out of use.
While they wait for treatment
If staying in their own bed is causing serious distress, they should tell you so you can get them help.
